Welcome to my blog Thriving From Ashes. This first post will orient you to the intent and purpose behind writing this blog. In the therapy room, my job is to follow my clients’ lead and guide them toward their stated goals. It is not my job to share every epiphany or piece of advice I think will better their lives. In therapy, a piece of me stays appropriately quiet because therapy is not about me. There are certainly moments where I have clients deviate briefly or segue into new territory as our work dictates, but I never enter knowing the exact direction the conversation “should” proceed and never attempt to control it. Within this silent space, clients inspire and challenge me in ways that encourage reflection and exploration on my part.
This blog is the result of that space, my professional lens, and my personal journey to thriving from ashes. That is to say, this is NOT a clinical blog detailing the latest research and data within the mental health industry. It will not give dry generic advice about human behaviors. Instead, this is an outlet that permits me to show up as both a professional and a human.
I will offer what I’ve learned from the many stories I’ve had the privilege to hear over the years. I will pull back the veil on this journey of healing and hopefully impart some guidance and wisdom on how to make it a truly transformative experience. I will share vulnerable pieces of my journey in an effort to demonstrate that “humaning better” is not a concept that can simply be taught. Rather, it is a way of experiencing life and orienting within the world around you. And it is WORK! Mostly, I hope this blog can inspire you to identify what, in your life, needs to burn to ashes in order to make room for you to set ablaze a life you define as thriving.
